The Hockey U program provides specialized instruction focusing on skating, stick skills and hockey concepts.
The season covers all aspects of skating used in hockey, including forward and backward stride, cross-unders, quick starts, stopping, and transitioning from forward to backwards & backwards to forwards.
To help make the transition to the Metro Hockey League, players will learn a number of hockey stick skills such as puck control, passing, and shooting by using effective moves, agility and confidence with the puck.
The program is open to Youth (ages 7 to 12) and Adult (16 and older) players**, and will cover all aspects of skating used in hockey, including forward and backward stride, cross-unders, quick starts, stopping, and transitioning from forward to backwards & backwards to forwards. **Players between the ages of 13 to 15 are welcomed, and the coaching staff will determine the appropiate Youth or Adult group to place the player.
Players must be able to skate forwards to participate in Hockey U. The XIC Skating School’s Learn-to-Skate Level 3 covers the minimum skating requirements for player to be prepared this program. The Hockey U staff will evaluate all players on the first day to determine their ability for success in the program.
